Love Unscripted by Tina Reber Review

From Goodreads: Ryan Christensen just wanted to be an actor. Never in his wildest dreams did he ever think that accepting a role in an unknown film would toss his career into overdrive. His new fame has cost him dearly; anonymity is no longer an option. His fans stalk him, the paparazzi hound him, and Hollywood studios all want a piece of him. Despite all of that, Ryan Christensen craves the most basic of human needs - to have love in his heart and privacy in his life.

Taryn Mitchell, the story's protagonist, is a realist. She's been feigning contentment, running the family pub in Seaport, Rhode Island, while quietly nursing her own internal heartaches. Her feet are fairly glued to the ground and she doesn't buy into all the hype that has descended on her tiny, coastal town. In her world, men are safe if they're kept at a distance.

Fate has other plans for these two when their paths cross one sunny afternoon. A group of female fans has attacked him, leaving his shirt torn, his face cut, and Ryan in obvious distress. Bonds between them form from the most dramatic of circumstances while jealousy, insecurity, and the stress of his celebrity life try to tear them apart.

Through all the tabloid lies, secrecy, and pressure, can Taryn's peace and Ryan's high-profile insanity live together in harmony?

Rating: 2.5/5

Plot: 3.5/5

Characters: 3/5

Ending: 1/5

The idea of a celebrity romance that deals with the harsh reality of the paparazzi and the famous life was very intriguing and I think this was a great example. Unfortunately, the plot was over-thought, over-written, and incredibly too long: it was too much and it made things complicated and overall just bad.

To start, the characters were likable (most of them) and, in the beginning, well-written, but as the story went in and the writing got worse, the characters seemed out of place and unlike themselves. The story went well the first 200 pages or so (still a little slow though but I didn't mind) but I think the author had so many points and opinions to make about celebrity relationships that the story got scattered. At some points, I thought the author was trying to show how the fame of being a celebrity can affect a relationship but there was never enough juice to to the story or any hints or real knowing as tot eh truth of what was going on. I don't want to give too much away so I'll make a spoiler post later, but the bottom line of this book: Great potential but in my opinion, it sincerely failed, hard.

The Fault In Our Stars by John Green Review

From Goodreads: Diagnosed with Stage IV thyroid cancer at 13, Hazel was prepared to die until, at 14, a medical miracle shrunk the tumours in her lungs... for now.

Two years post-miracle, sixteen-year-old Hazel is post-everything else, too; post-high school, post-friends and post-normalcy. And even though she could live for a long time (whatever that means), Hazel lives tethered to an oxygen tank, the tumours tenuously kept at bay with a constant chemical assault.

Enter Augustus Waters. A match made at cancer kid support group, Augustus is gorgeous, in remission, and shockingly to her, interested in Hazel. Being with Augustus is both an unexpected destination and a long-needed journey, pushing Hazel to re-examine how sickness and health, life and death, will define her and the legacy that everyone leaves behind.

I started this book technically 2 days ago and I have just now finished it. I stayed up for 5 hours tonight/this morning reading and I am in complete awe and feeling a lot of emotions right now. When I love a book, I think it's a good idea to write the review right away so I can accurately describe my feelings; I have a different opinion if I didn't like the book.

First, very few books have made me feel this...intensely. I have stayed up before for hours just reading a great book but this one is different. I'm thinking it's because I've never read a book so joyously depressing.  Without giving away any spoilers, Hazel and Augustus will break your heart and make it grow. They, and the other characters are all especially interesting and well-written. The focus though is placed on the two of them, as it should be.

Just like Mr. Green's other novels, I feel it was written and crafted to perfection. Even the ending, which seemed a little rushed to me, was appropriate and anything else I might have like would have been detrimental to the writing. I was looking forward to this book for quite some time and am glad and saddened to have finished the experience of reading it.

Book Blogger Hop: July 21- August 2

Book Blogger Hop
So excited to be back to doing this!

Q: What is one thing that your blog readers probably don't know about you?

A: Wow, lots of things probably. Here's a list (beware though, I like to talk about myself (there's one thing!)):

  1. I have a twin brother who has ODD. Google it if you don't know what that is!
  2. I had a very rough childhood and have suffered from depression/suicidal thoughts and anxiety for years.
  3. I just graduated from HS and will be going to college in my home state of PA!
  4. I have a few other blogs and my "baby" is my Tumblr
  5. I *love* music (I just went to Warped Tour and met my favorite band EVER of 6 years, TBS!), my little sister who is 3.5 years old and whom saved my life, and dyeing my hair crazy, beautiful colors even though the bleach kills it.
  6. I'm a very outgoing person and speak my mind too much but I used to be so shy and quiet but also very sweet--now I'm the cute devil :)
  7. I hope everyone knows this: I love reading! I used to read a book a day in middle school, then I got a life and it went to maybe a book a week or every few days, then it stopped altogether pretty much because I was so busy and wrapped up in my boyfriend and school and friends, etc.
  8. Tumblr has been my downfall, I'm fucking obsessed.
  9. ^I curse a lot and I try to limit it on here because it's the one thing I'm self-conscious of and don't want people thinking I'm some horny, hormonal teenager--even though I am.
  10. I'm 18 and cannot drive. Sad, yup.

Thanks so much for stopping by/not running away scared from my confessions! This is a small list compared to what my brain was trying to get my hands to type!
