Heavenly by Jennifer Laurens Review

From Goodreads: I met someone who changed everything. Matthias. My autistic sister's guardian angel. Honest. Inspiring. Funny. Hot. And immortal. That was the problem. What could I do? I did what any other girl would do-I fell in love with him. Zoë's sister darts in front of cars. Her brother's a pothead. Her parents are so overwhelmed; they don't see Zoë lost in her broken life. Zoë escapes the only way she knows how: partying. Matthias, a guardian sent from Heaven, watches over Zoë's autistic sister. After Zoë is convinced he's legit, angel and lost girl come together in a love that changes destiny. But Heaven on Earth can't last forever.

I think Indie books are becoming my favorite. They seem so much more real, and understated- in a good way. Is it just me, or has anyone else noticed this? Anyway, Heavenly definetly fit into this category. I don't know that I've ever read any Angel YA before, but if this books doesn't start a new train of it, I don't what other will.

Zoe is a very real character. I also have a twin brother and a younger sister with behavioral issues, not as serious as autism though, so I felt I could relate in the slightest bit with her. She's just trying to go through life while dealing with her autistic sister and her changed family. Which revolves around her little sister, Abria, who is always keeping them on their toes. But then Zoe learns that Abria had a guardian angel, Matthias. And a hot one at that. I had a great time seeing their relationship grow, especially considering the fact that they couldn't touch so they really had to get to know each other instead of just relying on a physcial connection. I swear I got excited almost every time Matthias popped into a room.

While I loved Laurens book, I did I have a few problems. First, Zoe's drinking. I felt confused at times because it seemes like she had a problem but the next minute it seemes like she was fine. And then, she has an epiphany and suddenly has no problem with alcohol. I don't know if it was explored as much as I would've liked because it wasn't important, or if she just wasn't as dependent on alcohol as Luke was with drugs. Another thing that bothered me was the little side problems with Zoe and her friends. I'm thinking there'll be more with them in the other books in the series...hopefully!

Lastly, I want to say thanks to Jennifer Laurens because I won a copy of Heavenly from her awesome blog!! Also, because she's going to do an interview with me and a giveaway- which should be up some time next week- so check back in for that!

The Killers vs. Brandon Flowers..............?

So I was listening to the radio the other day and I hear this song. I automatically said it was The Killers, because they are my favorite band and I'd know them anywhere. But then I was listening to the Alternative channel on my tv and the song came on. Well, when I looked I saw the artist of "Crossfires" is actually Brandon Flowers. I think I stared at the tv screen for a few seconds because I was so confused and I recognized the guy. So I did the only thing I could do- I went on google.

So I don't know how I don't hear these things, but apparently Brandon Flowers announced his solo career from The Killers in April! Where the hell was I?? Seriously, man. Not that he doesn't sound greta on his own, but he doesn't sound any different either. Okay, that's a little lie. He sounds the slightest bit different to me, only because I know their music so well! Why would he leave them?

Whatever. I'm still calling him The Killers! Hmphh.

Favorite Childhood TV Series

Wow. This was one of mall time favorite shows. I think I remember watching it with my uncle when I got home from school- I just loved all the characters. I still remember the theme song....

I watched The Rugrats when I was really small and still loved it as I got older. I have all the movies, my favorite being Rugrats in Paris, and I have all the books!

So these shows were huge in my school- and I loved them too. I can still remember the theme song to Hey Arnold! All my friends and I would talk about Recess the next day at school if we weren't watching it together!

So I loved this show too, but unlike all the other shows above, I was liek the only one who liked it! I remeber I cried one day when my mom picked me up from school because some kids were making fun of me for watching Dexter's Laboratory. :-(

So this is more like a "tween" show, but I couldn't not think about being a kid and not mention Lizzie McGuire!

Jumping Off Swings by Jo Knowles Review

From Goodreads: Tells, from four points of view, the ramifications of a pregnancy resulting from a "one-time thing" between Ellie, who feels loved when boys touch her, and Josh, an eager virgin with a troubled home life.

I just got this book from the library today, and even though I had like 12 others books I still had to read, I read this in less than 3 hours! I was so immersed in the novel, I just needed to know what happened. Knowles writing and her subtlety were great and flowed perfectly. She did an amazing job portraying all 4 characters points of view. It was a very realistic novel but I felt like I needed some hope that Ellie was going to get to the root of her problem. I just felt like a lot of things were left unsaid- but that may just be my personality speaking...If I have a problem, I tell people. But then again, if I were put in her situation I don't know how I'd act either.
